KRC Statement Regarding Derek Chauvin’s Verdict

Wednesday, April 21st, 2021

Yesterday’s guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd is a much needed step in the right direction for racial justice and the fight against white supremacy. While this decision is a positive one, and one of accountability, it is not one of justice.

True justice would be for the end to the continued racism, police brutality and harm and trauma that impacts the lives of the Black community. While too many of us have been victimized by racism and xenophobia, it is clear that when we come together, we are better. And when we are better, we can dismantle the systems of violence, oppression and white supremacy that are determined to keep us in this cycle of social and racial inequality and division.

KRC is committed to organizing and standing in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters, and to continue to address our own anti-blackness within our communities, and fight for our collective liberation. Only then can transformative solidarity happen.

Our hearts are with the Floyd family and the countless others who have lost their loved ones to the senseless killings in the hands of law enforcement.
